Food

A second life for healthy food

First, collect three to four tons of unsold fruit and vegetables from the Sunday market at Abattoir.

Next, share the fruit ans vegetables with anyone who needs them.

That’s COLLECTMET.

Why Collectmet ?

Not everyone finds it easy to eat healthily, and there’s plenty of food in near-perfect condition that is thrown away after the Sunday market at Abattoir. COLLECTMET takes the two-birds-one-stone approach: we fight food waste and share fruit and vegetables with anyone who needs them.

In a nutshell

Circular food system. We save food that market stalls are unable to sell.

Ingredients for our DREAMKITCHEN. Using the food we collect, we prepare a week’s worth of healthy lunches for anyone who’s interested in a nutritious meal.

A diverse team of volunteers. We meet up to work on Sundays. And when the job is done, we can take a bag full of fruit and vegetables to cook healthy meals at home.

Raising awareness about food waste. We inform volunteers, market visitors, and market stall holders about food waste. And by doing so, we make more people more conscious of their own waste.

We partner with food-aid organizations. Leftover fruit and vegetables are donated to organizations involved in food-aid programmes.

Making healthy food accessible. We share a colorful variety of fruit and vegetables with people who normally find it difficult to access healthy food.

Not a food bank. COLLECTMET is not just about collecting and distributing food. We bring people together. Everyone, from volunteers to casual passers-by.

Who’s it for?

Everyone’s welcome. And particulary:

  • Volunteers who want to do something to reduce food waste.
  • You, if you need fruit and vegetables.
