A rare bird (un oiseau rare) is one that is found outside its usual geographical area. A “rare bird” is also a person full of qualities. Les Oiseaux Rares is a musical show, a fictional documentary and a vast cultural mediation project.

Jawad is about 16 years old. He comes from Afghanistan. On 15 January 2022, Belgium arbitrarily declared him an adult and he has been missing ever since.

Under a tree, in a park, a hall or a cafeteria, people have gathered to celebrate Jawad’s 18th birthday.

Created from workshops with Brussels teenagers, including “Unaccompanied Foreign Minors”, Les Oiseaux Rares occupy the public space for a unique birthday party. Passers-by are invited to blow out candles, make wishes, and wish each other a future together… Between the concert and the performance, a kaleidoscopic narrative takes shape as real and invented testimonies are shared. The sound of brass, song and percussion mingles with the spoken word to unravel reality and question the writing of time, borders and identities.

Kelike Batman is a talented artist who has already performed at a number of local and international events. He has also released several singles that have been played on national and international radio stations. 

As part of the Cultureghem Festival, he’ll be interacting with the youngsters from Les Oiseaux Rares and completing their Open Mic with a concert, followed by a DJ set!
