For over a year now, Cultureghem has been developing a methodology for structurally allowing the Abattoir’s cultural programming to be determined by its users, thereby increasing their ownership of the public space. 

A cultural committee made up of site users and local residents -in other words, all the people who make the abattoir a unique and lively place on a daily basis!- have taken the reins of our cultural programming. They go out, get inspired and, through a series of brainstorming sessions, develop a methodology for ‘filtering’ all the artistic proposals for the site according to their shared values. The committee is not a “jury” but a group of “experts of daily life” (cf. Rimini Protokoll) – who can guide and support any artistic proposal according to their knowledge, rooted in the day-to-day reality of our site. 

The Cultureghem Festival is a “first test” of their working method.
