Although the project grant expires in June 2026, we look to the future with confidence. Together with the schools, parents and partners, we are currently working on making the soup initiative sustainable. The ambition is clear: from the new school year onwards, soup will continue to be offered in both schools, supported by a strong local network.

In this way, Kuregem Verbindt continues to build on what it has proven in recent years: healthy food as a catalyst for social interaction, engagement and equal opportunities for all children.

Kuregem Verbindt is supported by the Flemish Government as part of the ‘Local Alliance Networks’ call for projects.

Sunday 21 June – Musical CollecMet

We’ll kick off the festival with a special, musical CollecMet. Volunteers collecting unsold fruit and veg will be warmly welcomed with live music. A festive start to four days full of encounters and connection.

Monday 22 June – Table Festive

On Monday, our much-loved Table Festive is on the programme. Volunteers prepare and share a vegetarian dish from their country of origin. This way, we discover each other’s flavours, stories and traditions around one big table. We round off the evening with an energetic African percussion concert full of dance and song, accompanied by Teroubi.

Tuesday 23 June – Discover MOBIL

Tuesday is entirely dedicated to MOBIL, our new mobile tool for activating public space.

From 6 pm, join us at our DreamKitchen, after which you can discover MOBIL through conversations with the creators and partners. You’ll have the chance to test the tool yourself and take part in an inspiring debate on the future of public space and community.

The evening ends on a festive note with a DJ set by our very own DJ Rhoda, supported by Thierry.

Wednesday 24 June – KetMet Special

On Wednesday, we’re handing the stage over to children and families during our KetMet Special.

The programme includes:

Breakdancing
A deluxe creative workshop
Activities with MOBIL
We’ll also enjoy a performance by the Fanfakids and round off the day with the circus show *Kiss & Fly* by La Compagnie Tripotes.

A day full of wonder, play and creativity for young and old alike.

What is MOBIL?

MOBIL is a shared civic infrastructure that allows organisations, neighbourhood collectives and citizens in Brussels and beyond to collectively imagine, use and shape public space.

At the core of MOBIL is a simple idea: a flat-pack connector combined with standard aluminium tubes, enabling countless spatial configurations. From shade structures and resting spaces to art installations, playgrounds, projection structures, sports or play areas — MOBIL transforms public space into a flexible commons.

The system is:

• easy to use and transportable by bike trailer,
• modular and repairable,
• designed for shared public space and for different users: from small children to adults,
• simple yet robust,
• expandable with tarps, hammocks, inflatable elements, speakers, stages, a mobile cinema and more.

But MOBIL is not just a product or toolkit. It is also a different way of thinking about shared space. It explores how infrastructure can become more collective, accessible and flexible in response to urban life.

Over the past three years, MOBIL has been developed through a collaboration between Cultureghem, Filter Café Filtré, Pool is Cool, Molenbeek Rebels Basketball, GC De Platoo, MUS-E Belgium, Brede School Anderlecht, Park Poetik, Kureghem Boxing Academy, Nakama and Abattoir Anderlecht.

The MOBIL Launch

The public launch on 23 June is conceived as an open evening where visitors can discover MOBIL and the philosophy behind it through practical experiences.

The evening starts at 18:00 with a shared DREAMKITCHEN meal and the opening of the FAIR GROUND — an exhibition space where visitors can explore the MOBIL system through guided tours, demonstrations, prototypes, process images and encounters with the partners, designers and makers behind the project. Come and test how it works!

The launch is also an important networking moment for organisations, schools, collectives, artists, neighbourhood initiatives and residents who are curious about how they can start using MOBIL themselves. Visitors will not only discover the system up close, but also engage in conversations about possible applications, collaborations and future use.

At 20:00, designer Yannick Roels (FORS bvba) will give a short keynote introducing MOBIL: what it is, how it works, and above all what it makes possible within shared public space.

The evening continues with the public debate:

“The Space We Share”

Who gets access to shared space?
Who claims ownership?
And who decides?

The debate starts from the idea that sharing space is not simply a matter of politely asking. Shared space requires organisation, design, negotiation, collaboration — and sometimes conflict.

Speakers from different backgrounds will reflect on the power dynamics within the spaces between buildings: the streets, squares and public places we all depend on, but do not all access equally.

The speakers are: Bie Vancraeynest (Toestand), Elsa Marchal (Team Bouwmeester Maitre Architecte), Aurel Gavriloaia (AG Real Estate / Up4North), moderated by Benedikte Coussement (VRT-journaliste).

The debate takes place from 20:30 until 21:30 and forms the intellectual closing moment of the MOBIL Launch.

Afterwards, the evening continues in a festive manner inside La Bulle — MOBIL’s large inflatable space — with music by DJ Rhoda.

Volunteer – cycling with trailer, and optionally helping facilitate cooking, play and building activities in the neighbourhood (m/f/x)

Cultureghem is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who enjoys cycling with a trailer to transport materials to our activities in the public space.
Would you also like to help facilitate these activities – cooking, playing and building together? That’s possible! It’s not required, but it’s welcome.

Cultureghem is a place where everyone is welcome and sharing comes naturally. From the covered market of Abattoir in Anderlecht – and in streets and squares – we bring people together with our mobile kitchens, play boxes and building kits.

Our work relies on a strong Dreamteam of volunteers: hundreds of helping hands who help make Cultureghem what it is.

Through activities such as Vadrouille (activating streets by cooking, eating and playing together) and MoBil (a flexible construction system to build our own shared space in the public realm), we move through the neighbourhood.

We create temporary meeting places in the public space where people cook, play, build and spend time together.

Everything is mobile, light and accessible – and you play a key role in making this happen.

Your role

As a volunteer bicycle transport helper for mobile activities, you will receive training at Cultureghem and you will:

• prepare materials and safely load the bicycle trailers before departure

• transport materials (kitchen tools, play materials, building boxes…) using the electric bike and trailer to and from activities

• help set up and dismantle mobile activities in public space

• help ensure smooth and safe transport

• optionally – if you enjoy it – help facilitate activities (cooking, games, animation, welcoming participants, being a contact point for neighbours)

• engage together with the Cultureghem team and the volunteer Dreamteam

• contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, accessibility and encounters in the neighbourhood

You will never be alone: you will receive an introduction and guidance from the Cultureghem team and gradually learn how to work with our mobile tools and approach.

Who are we looking for?

Someone who:

• wants to be part of a diverse and enthusiastic volunteer group

• enjoys cycling and is not afraid of physical work

• feels comfortable in Brussels traffic

• can commit at different times (often during the day or weekends)

• has an open, accessible and connecting attitude

• speaks Dutch and has at least basic knowledge of French

• additional languages are a plus (English, Arabic, Lingala…)

• has an interest in social, cultural or neighbourhood activities

Experience cycling with a trailer is useful but not required, as we provide training.

Mobil is a modular construction system for temporarily redesigning, testing and activating public space together. And because such a system only really works if others can also understand and use it, we are simultaneously building the place where everything comes together: the Mobil wiki.

What exactly is this wiki?

Think of it as an open, living manual (like Wikipedia, but about Mobil): a website that anyone can add to.
You will find step-by-step instructions on what Mobil is, how to use the modules, what parts you need, what is safe, and above all: what we have already learned in practice. With photos, short instructions, checklists, diagrams and examples. Not “beautifully written”, but clear and usable – so that others can repeat, adapt and pass it on.

What is a Wikijam?

A Wikijam is an open working session in which we add content to the wiki together. No long presentations: we come to create, document, organise and publish.

What will we do that day?

We will help you get started. There is a clear list of specific contributions that the wiki needs. You choose something that suits you and can start right away (alone or in pairs). For example:

• photographing modules and details as if for a manual
• measuring, weighing and labelling parts (so that the specs are correct)
• creating short, concise how-to’s (really ‘how to do it’)
• Clean up and improve diagrams, visuals and page structure
• Mini-interviews with partners/builders/designers: what works, what doesn’t, and why

You don’t have to be a “wiki person”. If you can create, observe, organise, write or ask questions, you are welcome.

Why participate?

Because this is the most enjoyable way to get to know Mobil up close: you meet fellow creators and builders, and you see immediate results. We publish what we create right away — and it helps others use, copy or improve Mobil.
